Feature Friday: Meet Amanda!

By Candice Gerdes

When we’re able to get back into the studios, give this Earth angel a hug- mkay? Amanda brings light into each room she walks into and won’t leave until she brightens your day with a compliment. Amanda, we absolutely adore you and are so grateful you’re a part of our family.

Q: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MEMORY WITH THE SOUL STRONG COMMUNITY?

A: A memory I doubt I will ever forget was my last day in Soul Strong teacher training. I had spent over four months learning and growing alongside my classmates and teachers in such a profound way. Emotions were high because we had all deeply bonded through the experience, and we were sad to have it end. Our love for each other had brought many of us to the point of tears. Each and every one of those yogis hold a special place in my heart and always will. I hope they know I’m always gonna want to be there for them.

Q: WHEN DID YOU DO YOUR TEACHER TRAINING?

A: I participated in SSY teacher training from February-June of 2020. We began our training in person, but as everyone knows, COVID came onto the scene and we moved to an online version of our program. Soul Strong Yoga was wonderful in offering that quick and smooth transition. And we were still able to get a phenomenal experience all the way through to the end.

Q: WHAT CALLED YOU TO DO A TEACHER TRAINING?

A: I enjoyed practicing yoga, but I wanted to really know and understand it from a teacher’s standpoint. It’s my belief that being a teacher makes you a better student. And being a student makes you a better teacher. Previous to yoga, I had a passion for dance. I had been teaching dance since I was a teenager. Because of this, I knew in beginning my yoga journey, learning the ins and outs of yoga through a teacher training would benefit my personal yoga practice tremendously. In addition, I knew yoga would be such a wonderful thing to be able to offer my clients/students. Yoga checked a lot of important boxes for me: mindfulness/meditative, nonjudgmental, safe for the body, and great for building flexibility and strength, were at the top of that list. Now my heart calls me to be both student and teacher of yoga as a lifelong way of living.
